August 16 - November 3, 2019
Japanese and Danish ceramics meet in the ‘Manpower’ exhibition, where the ceramicists Shozo Michikawa and Hans Vangsø each present 32 works of art. The 64 ceramic jars, bottles and bowls are all specially created for the exhibition, which celebrates the wild forces at play and the artists’ unsentimental approach to clay, the most grounded and basic material of all.
Shozo Michikawa and Hans Vangsø were both born in the early 1950s and are carriers of a long and strong craft tradition, with respective roots in Japan and Denmark. With this as their common starting point and using very simple tools, the two ceramicists shape vessels whose expression reaches back into the history of ceramics while also stretching forwards in time by capturing the precise movement and the very moment when the work is frozen in time, finished.
In the exhibition you can try your own hand at the craft on one of the potter’s wheels kindly made available by Cerama. Just contact the staff, and they will help you get started.
The exhibition is open until 3 November 2019. To learn more, you can subscribe to our newsletter and keep an eye on our online event page, which is regularly updated with information about events during the exhibition period.
