Inspired by the imagery language of the story, the idea arose for the first time 10 years ago and slowly a color manuscript took form. A manuscript that pulls out moods, feelings and colors from the 68 chapters of the book:
“He put his feet in catfish sandals and wore an elegant home suit, trousers in deep, water-green velvet and a jacket in nutcolored Calmank. He hung the bath towel on the drying rack, placed the bath mat on the side of the bathtub and poured kitchen salt over it in order to make it regurgitate all the water that it contained. The mat started to drool and make small bunches of soap bubbles, “writes Boris Vian in the first chapter of the book.
A lot of questions occur as you scroll through Helle Vibeke’s works, because the chapters challenge the category illustrated book by being the ultimate examples of wordless visualizations – there are simply no words.
Helle Vibeke explains that she wanted to “reinvent the slowness” in the 68 illustrated chapters. The illustrated chapters must be experienced and enjoyed as the sensual, handmade works they are.
All 68 chapters can be seen in the shop at Kløvermarksvej 70. Helle Vibeke says about the creation of the chapters: “When you put 2 sheets of paper together, it’s a book – even if I call them chapters – and then a story is expected”. And if you want to hear the story about the chapters, stop by us.
The chapters can be purchased from us at Kløvermarksvej: They cost 2-3,000 DKK, are numbered and signed in a handmade edition of 20 pieces of each chapter.
