Tube Chair (DS)

Handpolished stainless steel frame. Legs and back in a single flow, seat upholstered in parchment, Elegance or Vegetal leather.

The seat on Dan Svarth’s Tube Chair almost seems to be floating in the air. Mounted on four small hand-milled cones in stainless steel, it is elevated slightly above the frame. The shape of the seat, with its rounded corners, is not quite a triangle, not quite a square but something in between. The upholstery comes in three variants: goat rawhide (parchment), black Elegance leather and natural Vegetal leather. The smaller back rest continues into the frame and forms the front legs, while the larger, exterior chair back extends into the back legs. Despite its simple and straightforward appearance, the chair in fact consists of 17 individual components, which come together in a fluid form. The two solid steel stretchers between the front legs contribute to the chair’s expression and strength. The first Tube Chairs were produced by blacksmith and furniture manufacturer Herluf Poulsen in the town of Tikøb in the 1980s. In 2022, together with architect Dan Svarth, the team at A. Petersen began to rethink the chair’s design and production. What you see here is the result of that process. The entire frame is made of hand-polished stainless steel by blacksmith Mikkel Kjærholm and by Stål&Form. The seat is produced and upholstered in the workshops at A. Petersen.
