Experiments in glass and ceramics using soil from different places in Japan

Rick Gerner and Johanne Jahncke work with glass and ceramic utensils as well as art glass.

At the exhibition Japan Retur, the design duo shows experiments from their stay in Japan. On a shelf in the exhibition you find a large number of glass samples, where clay from different locations in Japan are melted and in test form reveal a subtle color difference.

The common interest in geology of GernerJahncke is also part of the work of a small series of ceramic bottles, which we sell at the shop at Kløvermarksvej. Here pigments from clay extracted from selected areas in Japan are used as glazing. The bottles are available in 6 different colors and cost 550 DKK per piece.

If you would like to know more about GernerJancke’s approach to glass and ceramics, you can get additional information in Rigetta Klint’s new book “Håndværk”. Here, Klint draws a fine portrait of the design duo and their work with the glass-blowing profession and their reflections on the craft.
