Wire Table (OS)

Electropolished stainless steel frame and powder lacquered metal tabletop (black, red, white).

When architect Ole Schjøll designed his wire table in 1984 he did not imagine that he would pull out the drawings and put the table into production 32 years later. Nevertheless, he succeeded, in a production consisting of no fewer than five different production stages on Danish soil. From sketch to finished design, the table undergoes bending, welding, polishing, cutting and lacquering before it is finished and ready to be brought home to a cosy living room. The stainless steel wire that makes up the table’s frame is delivered and shaped by FK Trådindustri, a company in central Jutland. The ten wire components are subsequently welded together into a unified frame by welder Mikkel Kjærholm. The frame is then brought to OP Stål in Ringsted, where it undergoes electropolishing, which is both more environmentally friendly and more durable than the chrome plating of yesteryear. Meanwhile, the steel tabletop has been cut into the right size and shaped in Gladsaxe at the company Klip og Buk. Corners, edges and burrs are sanded, before the tabletop is sent on to Laduco Industrilak in Ishøj. The tabletop is hung on a hook and then the powder – which contains no solvents – is sprayed onto the tabletop, which is electrically charged so that the powder adheres to it. Afterwards, the tabletop is baked in the big oven for 20 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius.
