Dining Chair (coloured ash)

Sometimes development of a piece of furniture needs to take its time and sometimes the piece has to be in the hands of many people before reaching its final shape and form. At A. Petersen we treasure all these processes as part of the journey. The Dining Chair is such an example of a piece of furniture which has been on our minds for a long time.

In 2019 Dan Svarth first presented us with a drawing - a water colour - of what he saw to be a great fit for his Table in mahogany, with its sleek and elegant rounded edge and the way the legs carry the table top. The Dining Chair has thus been on the way since 2019 but now it is here. And it recalls memories of the elegant archetypes of wooden chairs, especially that of the greek Klismos chair.

As Dan Svarth puts it: ‘If culture is not renewed, it has no meaning’, this also being true about a new chair, building on the tradition of so many before. The bended back also shapes a safe ‘just lean back’ feeling, almost as a hug from behind, and makes it possible to sit in different ways - from the side and straight forward, and with your arms on the back as an armrest. Yet very simple in the overall expression, the Dining Chair welcomes you to sit comfortably and enjoy a long stay while seated. These features make this chair perfect for both fine dining and for everyday use at home, in the public and in private spaces.

The Dining Chair is made by Hudevad Furniture on Funen, using locally sourced wood, and now comes in coloured ash in versions with an upholstered seat (Kvadrat Re-wool) or without. Contact us for info on available Re-wool colour options.
For the version without upholstered seat, you can choose a canvas cushion. Feel free to reach out if you prefer another kind of upholstery.
